Tomorrow is International Women's Day. It is an important day to acknowledge the achievements and contributions of women and to renew discussion about the importance of gender equality in Canada and around the world.

On March 8th and every day, we celebrate the women who work and volunteer at GSPS and the strength they bring to our Service.

Throughout the month, we’d like to introduce you to some of the amazing women of our GSPS family.

Meet Constable Samantha Insinna, Domestic Violence Unit female officer standing beside cruiser

Q: What inspired you to become an Officer in the GSPS Domestic Violence Unit?

A: As a Uniform officer I would respond to a lot of different calls. I noticed that a lot of the time when it came to domestic violence calls, that women in those situations would often prefer to talk to me solely based on the fact they felt more comfortable speaking with a female officer. As result, I felt that I could help a lot more Survivors if I applied for the Domestic Violence position assigned to our unit. So here I am.

Q: What’s the best part about your job? Why do you love doing what you do?

A: Honestly, what we do is not easy. But every day is different and comes with its own challenges, and I can tell you, it’s never boring. But the main reason I love what I do? Knowing that you’ve made a difference in someone’s life, however big or small it may be.

Q: What advice would you give to a girl or woman aspiring to join the policing profession/law enforcement field?

A: Never give up. Have confidence and persevere.
