International Women’s Day is recognized every year on March 8th and this year’s theme is Break The Bias. It is an important day to acknowledge the achievements and contributions of women and to renew discussion about the importance of gender equality in Canada and around the world.

On March 8th and every day, we celebrate the women who work at GSPS and the strength they bring to our Service.

Leading up to International Women’s Day and throughout the month, we’d like to introduce you to some of the amazing women of our GSPS family.

Meet Cassandra, our Research & Data Analystman and woman standing and smiling

Q) What inspired you to become a Research & Data Analyst with GSPS?

A) My area of specialization is sexual violence and I am passionate about research. I felt like this was my way of being able to make a difference for Survivors since Police are often the first point of contact.

Q) What’s the best part about your job? Why do you love doing what you do?

A) Answering the hard questions! I feel heard and respected for my knowledge and experience by all levels of management. Some of the things I love about my job is seeing the interpretation of large data being put forward into actionable solutions in the community.

Q) What advice would you give to a young girl or woman aspiring to join the policing profession/law enforcement field?

A) As Dory would say from Finding Nemo: Just keep swimming! There have been many great female leaders within Policing who have broken down barriers and continue to do so. There are still many barriers experienced by women from various and diverse backgrounds and I would love to see more of those to continue to be broken down.
