On International Women’s Day and every day, we celebrate the women who work at GSPS and the strength they bring to our Service.

We’d like to introduce you to some of the amazing women of our GSPS family.

Meet your Deputy Chief of Police, Sara Cunningham: police officer smiling

Q) What inspired you to become a Police Officer with GSPS?

A) As a young girl my father inspired me to become a police officer.  I saw firsthand how proud he was of the profession and how much he truly enjoyed his work.  I was drawn to the fact that this profession allows you to be out engaging with people in your community.

Q) What’s the best part about your job? Why do you love doing what you do?

A) My job/role has changed significantly over the years but that really is one of the best parts of this profession. There are so many diverse opportunities. I am profoundly proud of this profession and what I love most is the people. The people we provide a service to, our Community partners who assist us in ensuring community safety and the members of GSPS who work tirelessly to provide exceptional service.

Q) What advice would you give to a young girl or woman aspiring to join the policing profession/law enforcement field?

A) If you are considering a career in Policing, reach out to us. Ask the questions, we are here to assist in any way we can. This job can be both physically and mentally demanding so be kind to yourself and ensure you are taking care of yourself both mentally and physically. This is an extremely rewarding career and women play a very important role.
