International Women’s Day is recognized every year on March 8th and this year’s theme is Break the Bias. It is an important day to acknowledge the achievements and contributions of women and to renew discussion about the importance of gender equality in Canada and around the world.

On March 8th and every day, we celebrate the women who work at GSPS and the strength they bring to our Service.

Leading up to International Women’s Day and throughout the month, we’d like to introduce you to some of the amazing women of our GSPS family.

Meet Heather Lewis, our Technical Support Clerk: woman standing in front of media wall

Q) What inspired you to become a Technical Support Clerk with GSPS?

A) Back in 2006, the Technical Support Clerk position was quite innovative and also quite new to me. I was fortunate to work with retired Cst. Robert Kaelas who mentored me as all of my training was on the job. My coworkers and colleagues across the province continue to inspire me to do the best job possible.

Q) What’s the best part about your job? Why do you love doing what you do?

A) The best part of my job is working with Officers and assisting Crown Attorneys with video evidence for their investigations. I love troubleshooting and problem solving each day. I enjoy learning new programs to assist with video enhancements that have the potential to provide key information to solving an investigation.

Q) What advice would you give to a young girl or woman aspiring to join the policing profession/law enforcement field?

A) Always believe in yourself. Life has its challenges but your determination and perseverance will be your strength.
