Working in collaboration with the City of Greater Sudbury’s Municipal Law Enforcement Officers, the 51‑year‑old man has been charged with Cruelty to Animals under the Criminal Code of Canada. The dog is in a safe and secure environment at a local animal shelter, receiving appropriate attention and support.
The accused has been released on an undertaking with conditions prohibiting him from having the care or control of any animal, and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date to answer to the charge.
UPDATE
On February 14, 2026, police received a report from a community member regarding an incident in which a man was seen kicking his dog. A video of the incident was later circulated online.
We understand how disturbing and upsetting this video has been for many in our community and beyond, and we want to assure the public that we are actively investigating the incident.
The dog has since been removed from the individual’s care. Animal Welfare Services have been notified and are following up as part of the ongoing process.
Patrol Officers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
We are reminding community members to refrain from calling police unless they have first-hand information related to this incident.

We are aware of and are actively investigating an incident involving a small black dog and an individual on Bruce Avenue.
The incident has been reported to police.
