
UPDATE 2
As a result of the investigation into the fatal collision involving a pedestrian on Algonquin Road on January 22, 2026, members of our Integrated Traffic Safety Unit (ITSU) have arrested and charged a 20-year-old, man from Greater Sudbury with Careless Driving Causing Death under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
The driver was released on a Part III Summons with a court date of June 12, 2026, to answer to the charge. His name cannot be released as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
UPDATE
Unfortunately, the 59-year-old, pedestrian has succumbed to her injuries and died in hospital on January 29, 2026.
Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends. Her name will not be released out of respect for her family’s wishes.
Officers in the Integrated Traffic Safety Unit (ITSU) continue to investigate the collision.

Just before 7:10 p.m. on January 22, 2026, officers were dispatched to a collision involving a pedestrian on Algonquin Road. The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision stopped to render aid to the pedestrian and contacted emergency services. The 59-year-old, woman was transported to the hospital by Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services with serious, life-threatening injuries. She remains in critical condition.
Based on the preliminary investigation, it is believed that the pedestrian was crossing Algonquin Road when she was struck by the black SUV traveling towards Regent Street.
The Integrated Traffic Safety Unit (ITSU) is investigating the collision and the investigation is ongoing.
