Around 10:40 p.m. on Sunday, February 7, 2021, we were called in relation to a Weapons complaint at a residence on O’Neil Drive West in Garson. Information received by our 911 Emergency Communications Centre was that when the caller knocked on the front door of the residence he was met by a man holding what was believed to be a handgun. The man pointed it at his head and threatened to kill him.

The man immediately left the property and contacted Police in order to report the incident. Patrol Officers and members of our Emergency Response Unit (E.R.U.) quickly arrived on scene and began an investigation into the incident.

E.R.U. Officers were able to establish communication with the man inside the residence and at 12:10 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2021, the man exited the residence and surrendered to police without incident. E.R.U. Officers cleared the residence and located a replica handgun.

22 year old Pascal Hamel has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;

  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm

He attended Bail Court yesterday, Monday, February 8, 2021 to answer to the charges.

The investigation revealed that the involved parties were not known to one another prior to the encounter.

As a result of the investigation, Detectives from our Major Crime Section of our Criminal Investigation Division applied for and were granted a Search Warrant. Yesterday afternoon, Detectives executed the Search Warrant locating and seizing the following items;

  • BB handgun
  • Hunting rifle
  • Compound bow
  • Paintball gun

Please note none of the residents of the home had a valid Possession and Acquisition Licence for the firearm and the additional items were seized based on the concern for Public Safety due to the manner in which the replica firearm was used during the incident. The items will be held in Police custody pending the outcome of the Bail hearing and Court proceedings.
