The Greater Sudbury Police Service Traffic Management Unit will be on patrol Canada Day regulating the safe flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Roadways around Bell Park, Science North, Health Sciences North and several intersecting streets will be monitored for prohibited parking.

Vehicles parked in prohibited areas, grassed areas, sidewalks, or obstructing driveways and/or intersections will be ticketed and/or towed. The boat launch and access roads to the beach areas off Ramsey Lake Road will be monitored to ensure that vehicles are not blocking access routes. The boat launch parking lot is for vehicles with boats only and not for general parking and will be monitored for prohibited parking.

Access to Health Sciences North for emergency vehicles will monitored and maintained. Prohibited parkers will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

Temporary Road Closures: The following intersections will be closed starting at 10:00p.m until after the fireworks;

  • Paris St. closed at Ramsey Lake Road. Northbound traffic on Paris St. will be directed to take Centennial Drive. Only local traffic on Ramsey Lake Road will be permitted. After the fireworks all traffic from Science North will be directed southbound (left) onto Paris St.
  • Paris St. closed at Boland Ave. Southbound traffic on Paris St. will be directed westbound (right) onto Boland Ave.
  • Paris St. closed at York St. Traffic from Ripple St. at York will be directed to Regent St.

Paris St. traffic will not be able to turn onto York St. After the fireworks, all traffic from the York St. parking lots will be directed towards Regent St.

Sudbury Transit will be providing shuttle rides to and from Science North from the Southridge Mall and the Downtown Bus Depot from 11:45 a.m. until after the Fireworks. The cost is $1.00 round trip.  This means of transportation is encouraged due to the limited parking available and to discourage prohibited parking.

The boat launch parking lot is for vehicles with boats only and not for general parking and will be monitored for prohibited parking.

Please ensure that you take your time leaving the Canada Day Celebrations. Be patient and abide by the rules and regulations of the road.  The Traffic Management Unit is advising pedestrians to use crosswalks to avoid unnecessary risk to themselves and others. Also consider carpooling and using Sudbury Transit to help alleviate traffic congestion.
