Shortly after 4:15 a.m. on April 9, 2021, we received a call regarding a Robbery that had just occurred on Errington Avenue in Chelmsford. Information provided was that multiple men approached two other men outside of a residence and demanded the keys to the vehicle while holding the two men at gunpoint. The men then stole the vehicle and fled the area. One of the men sustained minor injuries as a result of being assaulted during the interaction.

Around 7:30 a.m. the stolen vehicle was located unoccupied on Pella Avenue in Chelmsford.

That afternoon, we received information that at least one of the men responsible for the carjacking was outside of a residence in Chelmsford. Officers attended the area and located two men, one on foot and one on a bike. The man on foot was taken into custody while the man on the bike fled into a wooded area. Officers set up containment of the area and members of our Emergency Response and K9 Units conducted a dog track. Officers located the man’s bike, as well as, a cell phone; however, it had appeared that the man had fled into a residence in the area. The man that had been taken into custody was released unconditionally as we do not believe that he was involved in the original incident.

Around 12:15 a.m. on April 10, 2021, Detectives attended a residence on Errington Avenue and located one of the men involved in the incident.

32 year old Kyle Daigle was charged with the following under the Criminal Code of Canada;

  • Assault x2
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Use of a Firearm While Committing an Offence
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was a Firearm x2
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Robbery with a Weapon
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

He was additionally charged on two outstanding Arrest Warrants and held in Police custody in order to attend Weekend and Statutory Holiday (W.A.S.H.) Court on April 10, 2021 to answer to the charges.

Through the investigation, Detectives from our Integrated Crime Team identified the man that fled on the bike as being involved in the original carjacking and applied for an Arrest Warrant. Detectives were granted an Arrest Warrant for 32 year old Kyle Smith and just before 9:40 p.m. on April 15, 2021, Members of our Emergency Response Unit located him walking on Charette Avenue in Chelmsford.

Upon searching him, Officers located brass knuckles and three knives, as well as, a substance believed to be either Cocaine or Fentanyl leading to additional weapons and drugs charges (Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose x4 and Possession of a Schedule I Substance).

In relation to the carjacking incident, he has been charged with the following under the Criminal Code of Canada;

  • Using a Firearm While Committing an Offence
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Motor Vehicle
  • Assault with a Weapon x2
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Mischief to Property Under $5,000
  • Break and Enter

Kyle Smith was also wanted on two outstanding Arrest Warrants for Fraud Under $5,000 and Assault. He will appear in Bail Court today, April 16, 2021 to answer to all of the charges.
