Incident #1
Around 5:05 p.m. on May 16, 2025, while patrolling the downtown, an officer conducted a Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) check on a motor vehicle. The MTO check showed that the permit of the vehicle had expired. The officer initiated a traffic stop and detected signs of impairment from the driver.
The officers conducted a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) on the driver, who performed poorly. The driver was arrested for impaired operation. An examination by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) determined that the driver was impaired by drugs.
As a result, a 26-year-old, man was charged with Operation While Impaired and Driving a Motor Vehicle Without a Valid Permit.
Incident #2
Just before 7:40 p.m. on May 16, 2025, police received a call from a member of the public regarding a driver who was believed to be impaired at a business on Kathleen Street. The caller stated that there was a driver using drugs in the motor vehicle.
Officers arrived in the area and located the motor vehicle. Officers spoke with the driver and observed signs of impairment. Officers also located drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. The driver was arrested for Operation While Impaired. An examination by a DRE determined that the driver was impaired by drugs.
The 43-year-old, man was charged with Operation While Impaired and Possession of a Schedule I Substance x2 (cocaine and methamphetamine).
Incident #3
At 5:10 p.m. on May 18, 2025, police received a traffic complaint regarding an alleged impaired driver. A description of the driver and motor vehicle were provided to the police. Officers located the vehicle minutes later and conducted a traffic stop downtown.
Officers detected signs of impairment while speaking with the driver. Officers conducted a SFST on the driver, who performed poorly. The driver was arrested for Operation While Impaired. An examination by a DRE determined that the driver was impaired by drugs.
The 36-year-old, man was charged with Operation While Impaired.
Incident #4
Shortly after 7:45 p.m. on May 18, 2025, police were dispatched to an alleged impaired driver in Worthington. Officers arrived on the scene and located the vehicle. Officers read the ASD demand and the driver provided a suitable breath sample registering a reading of "fail." The driver was arrested for Operation While Impaired and was transported to police headquarters, where breath samples revealed BAC readings well above the legal limit.
The 41-year-old, woman was charged with Operation While Impaired and Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) exceeding 80 mg.
Incident #5
At 8:30 p.m. on May 18, 2025, police received a call from a member of the public regarding an alleged impaired driver riding an ATV in Falconbridge. Officers arrived on scene and were able to locate the driver.
Officers read the ASD demand and the driver provided a suitable breath sample registering a reading of "fail." The driver was arrested for Operation While Impaired and was transported to police headquarters, where breath samples on the Intoxilyzer revealed BAC readings well above the legal limit.
The 37-year-old, man was charged with Operation While Impaired, Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) exceeding 80 mg and Operation While Prohibited.
Incident #6
Just before 8:35 p.m. on May 18, 2025, police received a traffic complaint regarding an alleged impaired driver in Val Caron. Officers arrived in the area and located the motor vehicle pulling into a residence. A traffic stop was conducted where officers detected signs of impairment. Officers read the Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand to the driver and the driver eventually provided a breath sample, that resulted in a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of over 50 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood (warn range).
As a result of the investigation, the 76-year-old, man had his driver's license suspended for 30 days as this was the third time the driver blew in the warn range.
Incident #7
Just after 11:35 p.m. on May 18, 2025, police received multiple calls regarding a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner in Val Caron.
Officers arrived in the area and were able to locate the vehicle. Officers saw the vehicle cross the center line several times and that the driver was swerving on the road. Officers conducted a traffic stop and located open alcohol in the vehicle. Officers read the ASD demand and the driver provided a suitable breath sample registering a reading of "fail." The driver was arrested for Operation While Impaired and was transported to police headquarters, where breath samples revealed BAC readings well above the legal limit.
During the investigation, officers determined that the driver was driving while prohibited and while under suspension
The 45-year-old, man was charged with Operation While Impaired, Operation While Prohibited and Driving While Under Suspension. As this was the second time the driver had been arrested for impaired operation in less than two months, he was held overnight and attended Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) Court on May 19, 2025, to answer to the charges.
Every driver charged with impaired operation over 80 or deemed impaired by a DRE had their licence suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle impounded for 7 days. The majority of the individuals were released with a future court date, therefore their names cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
Our officers remain committed to both proactively and reactively addressing impaired driving through proactive patrols and dedicated enforcement efforts, including, but not limited to, the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) campaign. The GSPS also relies on the support of community members who call 9-1-1 to report suspected impaired drivers. We would like to thank the community members who called our 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Centre to report these alleged impaired driving incidents.
