Just before 8:00 p.m. on May 19, 2025, patrol officers observed a driver of a motor vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign in the west end of the city.

Officers in a marked police cruiser followed the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop shortly thereafter on Lorne Street.

Upon speaking with the driver, officers determined that she was wanted by the Ontario Provincial Police on an outstanding warrant for the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA):

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking x4
  • Possession of a Schedule III Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition

The driver was arrested and a search of the vehicle incident to arrest led to police locating a loaded handgun underneath the front passenger seat.

Officers also located 22.1 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value of $2,210, drug packaging material, and over $2,000 in cash.

As a result of this incident, 34-year-old, Diana Bunyak has been charged with the following offences under the CCC, the CDSA and the Highway Traffic Act (HTA): 

  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing There was a Firearm
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing the Serial Number Has Been Tampered With
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Disobey Stop Sign, Fail to Stop
  • Drive Motor Vehicle Without Licence

The passenger in the vehicle, 22-year-old, Victor Morgan has been charged with the following offences under the CCC, the CDSA and the HTA: 

  • Breach of Recognizance to Keep the Peace
  • Possession of a Prohibited/Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing the Serial Number Has Been Tampered With
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Passenger, Fail to Properly Wear Seatbelt

Both individuals were held in police custody overnight and attend Bail Court today, May 20, 2025 to answer to the charges.
