The Greater Sudbury Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) working in collaboration with the Central Community Response (CRU) Unit and Patrol Operations remain committed to disrupting the trafficking of illicit drugs in the downtown core and throughout our jurisdiction. Street-level drug trafficking poses a significant threat to the safety, security and well-being of our community.

On August 22, 2025, as part of an ongoing effort to address illicit drug activity in our downtown core, members of the DEU observed traffic and behaviour consistent with drug trafficking from an address on Frood Road. Plain clothes officers conducted surveillance that confirmed both open drug use and trafficking.

With support from the Intelligence Unit, Patrol Operations, and the Emergency Response Unit (ERU), a Controlled Drug and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant was executed at the residence. Inside, police located over $2,000 cash, over $1,200 worth of illicit drugs and ammunition.

As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old, man and a 52-year-old, woman have been charged with the following offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and the Criminal Code of Canada:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Fentanyl
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Hydromorphone
  • Possession of ammunition contrary to order
  • Possession of property obtained by crime

Both individuals were released on conditions pending future court appearances. Their identities cannot be released at this time, as the information has not yet been sworn to in court.

The Central Community Response Unit (CRU) plays a critical role in both proactively and reactively addressing concerns, issues and crimes in the downtown core. Through their regular foot and bike patrols, officers build trust with residents and businesses, respond to crimes in progress and address individuals who pose an elevated risk to public safety through warrant apprehension and bail compliance.

Additionally, Patrol Operations play a vital role by responding to calls for service, supporting arrests, and ensuring a visible presence throughout the city.

We continue to take a coordinated, intelligence-led approach to drug enforcement, combining proactive investigations, community engagement, and strong collaborative partnerships. Together, we remain committed to disrupting illicit drug activity and enhancing public safety.
