Incident #1
At 5:54 a.m. on July 3, 2025, patrol officers observed a motor vehicle on Bloor Street, where it appeared that the driver of the vehicle was sleeping. Officers conducted a traffic stop and had difficulty waking the driver. Officers also observed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.
Officers were eventually able to wake the driver, who showed signs of drug impairment.
The driver was arrested for impaired operation and was transported to police headquarters.
An examination by a Drug Recognition Expert confirmed that the driver was impaired by drugs.
As a result, a 43-year-old, woman from Sudbury was charged with Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs.
Incident #2
At 12:17 p.m. on July 3, 2025, our 9-1-1 Emergency Communication Centre (9-1-1 ECC) received a suspicious person call in Skead. Information provided was that a man had been at the public beach all day, consuming alcohol and was observed staggering. The man was then seen getting into the driver’s seat of a motor vehicle.
Patrol officers attended the scene and located the vehicle with the man inside. A traffic stop was conducted.
After speaking with the driver, officers suspected drug impairment. Officers conducted a standard field sobriety test on the driver, who performed poorly. The driver was then arrested for impaired operation and was transported to police headquarters.
An examination by a Drug Recognition Expert determined that the driver was impaired by drugs.
As a result, a 58-year-old, man from Sudbury was charged with Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs.
Incident #3
At 6:42 a.m. on July 4, 2025, our 9-1-1 ECC received an alleged impaired call from a restaurant on Notre Dame Avenue. The caller advised that there was a man passed out in the driver’s seat of a motor vehicle in the parking lot.
Patrol officers attended the area and located the vehicle in the parking lot of the establishment. The vehicle was running, requiring multiple officers to attend the scene to block the vehicle in. The vehicle was in drive; however, the driver’s foot was on the brake while he was sleeping. It took officers several minutes to wake the driver.
The driver showed signs of drug impairment. Officers also located drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. The driver was arrested for impaired operation and transported to police headquarters.
An examination by a Drug Recognition Expert determined that the driver was impaired by drugs.
The investigation also revealed that the motor vehicle in question was a stolen vehicle.
As a result, a 26-year-old, man from Sudbury was charged with Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, Theft of Motor Vehicle and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.
Incident #4
At 8:31 p.m. on July 4, 2025, our 9-1-1 ECC received an alleged impaired call regarding a woman who was consuming alcohol all day and had left in a vehicle. Officers were provided with the license plate of the vehicle.
Officers located the vehicle at an address on Notre Dame Avenue. Upon identifying the driver, officers read the approved screening device demand. The driver provided a suitable sample, registering a reading of "fail."
The driver was arrested for Operation While Impaired and was transported to police headquarters, where breath samples revealed Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) readings well above the legal limit.
As a result, a 27-year-old, woman from Sudbury was charged with Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs and Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
Incident #5
At 1:43 a.m. on July 5, 2025, a patrol officer came across a motor vehicle on Lasalle Boulevard that had been involved in a collision. The officer learned that this vehicle had just struck a traffic sign near the intersection of Lasalle Boulevard and Lansing Avenue.
The driver then showed signs of impairment by drugs. Officers conducted a standard field sobriety test on the driver, who performed poorly.
The driver was then arrested for impaired operation. Upon a search incident to arrest, officers located a large quantity of drugs including 2.8 grams of crack cocaine, 239 Gabapentin pills and 37 Pregabalin pills.
An examination by a Drug Recognition Expert determined that the driver was impaired by drugs. It is also noteworthy that the driver was only a G1-licensed driver.
As a result, a 34-year-old, man from Sudbury was charged with Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Other Drugs X2, Possession of a schedule I substance - Cocaine, Failure to have an insurance card, Class G1 Licence holder - unaccompanied by a qualified driver, Class G1 Licence holder - drive at unlawful hour, and Have care or control of a vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available.
Incident #6
At 1:34 p.m. on July 5, 2025, while conducting an unrelated investigation, patrol officers came across a suspicious vehicle and began speaking with the driver. The driver showed signs of impairment.
Officers read the approved screening device demand. The driver provided a suitable sample, registering a reading of "alert.”
As a result, a 19-year-old, woman from Sudbury had her driver’s license suspended for three days.
Incident #7
At 12:42 a.m. on July 6, 2025, our 9-1-1 ECC received an alleged impaired traffic complaint. The caller advised that there was a vehicle on Martindale Road, and the driver appeared to be unconscious.
Police attended the area with Greater Sudbury Paramedics and located the vehicle and the driver. The driver was medically cleared and showed signs of impairment.
Officers read the approved screening device demand. The driver provided a suitable sample registering a reading of "fail." The driver was arrested for Operation While Impaired was transported to police headquarters, where he refused to provide breath samples.
The investigation also revealed that the driver was a prohibited driver.
As a result, a 39-year-old, man from Sudbury was charged with Failure or refusal to comply with demand
and Operation while prohibited.
Incident #8
At 1:57 a.m. on July 6, 2025, our 9-1-1 ECC received an alleged impaired call. Information provided was that an individual had just left a residence after consuming alcohol. Police were provided with the license plate for the vehicle.
Patrol officers located the vehicle on Highway 17 and conducted a traffic stop. During the traffic stop, the driver reversed the vehicle into the police cruiser and attempted to drive away. Patrol officers were able to stop the vehicle seconds later by boxing it in.
Officers placed the driver in custody as he also had outstanding warrants. During the interaction, the driver showed signs of impairment. The driver was arrested for Operation While Impaired and was taken to police headquarters, where breath samples revealed BAC readings three times over the limit.
As a result, a 34-year-old, man from Sudbury was charged with Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), Dangerous operation, Flight from peace officer, Driving while under suspension X2, and Possession of licence while prohibited.
Incident #9
At 5:33 a.m. on July 6, 2025, our 9-1-1 ECC received a call regarding a motor vehicle collision in Chelmsford. Officers located a pick-up truck that had rolled over, and the driver had fled the scene.
Through the investigation, officers located the driver, who showed signs of impairment.
The driver also attempted to report that the truck had been stolen, however the investigation revealed that he was, in fact, the driver at the time of the collision.
Officers read the approved screening device demand. The driver provided a suitable sample registering a reading of "fail."
The driver was arrested for Operation While Impaired and was transported to police headquarters, where breath samples revealed BAC readings over the limit.
As a result, an 18-year-old, man from Chelmsford was charged with Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), Dangerous operation, Public Mischief, Novice Driver BAC above zero, Young driver BAC above zero and Fail to remain.
Incident #10
At 7:51 p.m. on July 6, 2025, our 9-1-1 ECC received an alleged impaired complaint. The caller stated that an individual was seen exiting the driver’s seat of a vehicle on Lasalle Boulevard. The driver appeared to be stumbling and was having difficult time standing.
Patrol officers arrived on scene and spoke with the driver, who showed signs of impairment.
The driver was arrested for Operation While Impaired and was transported to police headquarters, where breath samples revealed BAC readings well above the legal limit.
As a result, a 61-year-old, woman from Sudbury was charged with Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs and Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
Every driver charged with impaired operation over 80, refusal or deemed impaired by DRE had their Driver’s License suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
