Around 8:55 a.m. on December 17, 2025, our 9-1-1 Emergency Communication Centre received a call from an open line where two individuals were heard yelling and one of the individuals stated that he had a gun.
Patrol officers were dispatched to the housing complex on Cambrian Village Road off Fielding Street as it was determined that the call originated from one of the residential units.
Officers set-up containment and a hold and secure was requested at Churchill Public out of an abundance of caution. Officers were able to determine where the call originated and began communicating with the individuals inside.
Members of the Emergency Response Unit and K9 Unit arrived on scene, as well as Negotiators. Negotiators continued to communicate with those inside for a peaceful resolution.
Shortly after 2:30 p.m. two individuals exited the residence and surrendered to police without incident. One of the individuals was released unconditionally as there was no information or evidence to suggest that they were in possession of the firearm. The second individual was held in police custody in relation to the firearm.
During the incident, detectives from the Break Enter and Robbery (B.E.A.R.) Unit applied for and were granted a search warrant for the unit. Once the residence was clear, detectives executed the search warrant, however, they did not locate a firearm.
While in custody, it was determined that the 45-year-old, man had previously assaulted his intimate partner providing officers with reasonable and probable grounds to charge him with Assault with a Weapon. He was held in police custody overnight and will attend Bail Court today, December 18, 2025, to answer to the charge. His name will not be released to protect the identity of his partner.
We would like to thank the community members residing in the housing complex for their cooperation and patience during this incident.
