
Just before 6:00 a.m. on February 28, 2026, officers were driving a marked police cruiser on Lorne Street when they saw a vehicle being driven without a front licence plate. Officers conducted a traffic stop at Logan Avenue and requested the driver’s licence and registration. The driver failed to provide officers with a valid driver’s licence. While speaking with the driver and occupants, officers saw in plain view, a bag containing what was believed to be illicit drugs and a weight scale.
All three individuals were placed under arrest. Upon searching the individuals and vehicle incident to arrest, officers located and seized 23 grams of what is believed to be cocaine, seven Xanax pills and seven oxycodone pills, as well as, $5,604.25 in cash. The estimated value of the drugs is $2,370.
The 34-year-old, driver has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking a schedule I substance under Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and fail to comply with release order under the Criminal Code of Canada. He was released on an undertaking with a court date of May 13, 2026, to answer to the charges. His name cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
One passenger, 25-year-old, Deanna Armstrong was wanted on two outstanding arrest warrants and was breaching both release and recognizance conditions. She was charged accordingly in addition to the CDSA charge.
The other passenger, 29-year-old, Matthew Leon provided a false identity to officers and was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the traffic stop. He was charged with obstruct peace officer and fail to property wear a seat belt in addition to the CDSA charge.
Deanna Armstrong and Matthew Leon attended Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on February 28, 2026, to answer to the charges.
