In November of 2019, the Greater Sudbury Police Integrated Crime Team (I.C.T.) working in collaboration with the Ontario Provincial Police Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (O.C.E.B.) commenced multiple investigations intending to disrupt drug trafficking operations entering and operating within the City of Greater Sudbury.

Shortly after 1:00 pm, on January 23rd 2020, police from the Greater Sudbury Police I.C.T. and Tactical Unit along with the Ontario Provincial Police O.C.E.B. and OPP North East Region Community Street Crime Unit, executed Controlled Drugs and Substances Search Warrants at six locations across Greater Sudbury, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals.

The seven individuals have been charged with the following:

  • 26-year old male for Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • 29-year old female for Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • 48-year old male for Possession of a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  • 44-year old female for Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  • 18-year old male for Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Obstruct Peace Officer
  • 46-year old male for Possession of  a Schedule I Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • 52-year old male for Possession of a Controlled Substance

During the Search Warrant, Detectives seized:

  • 305 grams of suspected Fentanyl (estimated street value of $122,000)
  • 415 grams of suspected Cocaine (estimated street value of $41,500)
  • $2,900 in Canadian currency and $100 in American currency

The amount of Fentanyl seized represents over 3,050 street level doses that could have reached the community. The quantity and street value of the seized substances is significant.

The 26-year old male and the 29-year old female are being held for Bail. The remaining individuals were released from Police custody to attend a later court date.

The Drug Enforcement Unit of the Integrated Crime Team remains committed to working collaboratively with the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau and will continue to focus its efforts on major crime operations that pose a direct and elevated threat to the safety, security and wellness of our community. The Integrated Crime Team aims to identify and disrupt organized crime in Greater Sudbury through innovative technology, collaborative partnerships and traditional Police work resulting in the arrests of those involved, holding them accountable for their criminal activities and the seizure of illegal drugs, prohibited firearms and proceeds of crime.
