As we close another Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) season and move into 2026, our message remains clear: impaired driving is a criminal choice, one that puts lives at risk and threatens the safety of everyone in our community.
From November 26 to January 1, members of our Integrated Traffic Safety Unit (ITSU) and Patrol Operations conducted the annual Festive RIDE campaign.
During this period:
- 2,172 vehicles were checked
- 50 Approved Screening Device demands were made
- 339 Mandatory Alcohol Screening tests conducted
- 6 Standard Field Sobriety Tests completed
- 4 Drug Recognition Evaluations performed
- 11 impaired driving charges laid
- 8 “Over 80 mg” alcohol charges laid
- 2 drivers refused to comply
- 43 Highway Traffic Act offences were identified, and provincial offence notices (PON) issued
In December alone, officers arrested and charged 32 impaired drivers:
- 24 impaired by alcohol
- 5 impaired by drugs
- 1 impaired by a combination of alcohol and drugs
- 1 who refused to comply with testing demands
Throughout the month, our Integrated Traffic Safety Unit (ITSU) also issued:
- 188 provincial offence notices under the Highway Traffic Act
- 55 Part III summons
- 6 stunt driving charges
These numbers reflect our continued commitment to road safety through identifying dangerous driving behaviours and holding offenders accountable.
Road safety is a shared commitment, and it begins with the simple choice to drive sober. Every decision not to drive impaired protects lives. Every plan for a safe ride home strengthens our community and every responsible choice helps ensure that no family must endure the devastation caused by impaired driving.
Driving impaired is not an accident – it is a criminal act – and those who choose to jeopardize the safety of others will be held accountable. Our officers remain commitment to enforcing impaired driving laws and protecting our community.
As we look ahead to 2026, our efforts will not stop with the holiday season. Through our Anywhere Anytime RIDE campaign, officers will continue conducting checks year‑round, at all times of day, across our community. Impaired drivers can and will be caught anywhere, at any time.
We ask every community member to join us in making roads safer:
- Never drive impaired by alcohol, drugs, or any substance
- Plan ahead: designate a driver, call a taxi, use public transit, or arrange a ride
- Report suspected impaired driving immediately
- Support friends and loved ones in making safe decisions
Impaired driving will not be tolerated in our community. Together, we can save lives.
