Just before 11:00 a.m. on August 1, 2025, the Greater Sudbury Police Service, Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services and Fire Services responded to a serious marine collision on Lake Nepahwin involving a boat and a swimmer.
According to witnesses, a 52-year-old woman was swimming in open water when it appeared that she was struck by a passing vessel. The victim sustained significant injuries and received immediate assistance from individuals on scene.
The victim was transported to Health Sciences North and remains in the Intensive Care Unit in critical condition.
The Greater Sudbury Police Service’s Integrated Traffic Safety Unit (ITSU), with support from the Forensic Identification Unit, is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Aerial imaging via Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) and detailed scene documentation are underway, and officers continue to conduct interviews and gather additional evidence.
