Around 5:50 p.m. on March 21, 2023, officers were dispatched to the area of Old City Hall Lane in relation to a robbery that had just occurred.

Upon arrival officers located a 39-year-old man who had sustained serious injuries from the attack. He was transported to hospital by City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services.

Through the investigation it was determined that three individuals had violently attacked the man with a tire iron and a hatchet and then stole his bag before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

This is a targeted attack as the individuals involved are known to each other.

Around 6:40 p.m. officers located and arrested 35-year-old, Samantha Doyle on Louis Street. Upon searching her, officers located the bag that was stolen from the man and over 10 grams of Fentanyl. She has been charged with the following under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA);

  • Attempt Murder
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Robbery
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

Officers also located and seized the vehicle used during the incident. Detectives have applied for a search warrant for the vehicle.

At the same time, officers located and arrested 31-year-old, Lindsey Trudeau on Larch Street in relation to this incident. He has been charged with the following under the Criminal Code of Canada and the CDSA;

  • Attempt Murder
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Robbery
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Drive While Under Suspension x5
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Both individuals were held in police custody overnight to attend Bail Court today, March 22, 2023 to answer to the charges.

Around 9:25 a.m., this morning, March 22, 2023, officers received information that the third individual involved in the incident was in the area of Elgin Street and Shaughnessy Street. Officers attended the area and located 33-year-old, Michael Southwind. He has been arrested on an arrest warrant and charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;

  • Attempt Murder
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Robbery
  • Drive While Disqualified

He will attend Bail Court today to answer to the charges.
