UPDATE 4

Through the investigation, Detectives have identified a third and fourth person believed to be responsible for the fatal fire that claimed the lives of three community members.

Around 8:30 p.m. on April 27, 2021, Detectives from the Major Crime Section of our Criminal Investigation Division arrested and charged 34 year old Jared Herrick and 34 year old Phillippe Jeannotte with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;

  • First Degree Murder x3
  • Attempt Murder
  • Conspiracy to Commit Murder
  • Arson - Disregard for Human Life
  • Break Enter and Commit
  • Possession of an Incendiary Device

Jared Herrick attended Bail Court on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 and Phillippe Jeannotte attended Bail Court, today, Friday, April 30, 2021 to answer to the charges.

This is an ongoing investigation and we are actively seeking information in relation to additional individuals who are believed to be involved in this incident.

UPDATE 3

Through the investigation, Detectives have identified a second person believed to be responsible for the fatal fire that claimed the lives of three community members.

Around 3:25 p.m. on April 24, 2021, Detectives from the Major Crime Section of our Criminal Investigation Division arrested and charged a 48 year old Fernard Bolduc with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;

  • Party to the Offence of First Degree Murder x3 
  • Party to the Offence of Attempt Murder 
  • Conspiracy to Commit Murder
  • Party to the Offense of Arson - Disregard for Human Life

He attended Bail Court on Sunday, April 25, 2021 to answer to the charges.

This is an ongoing investigation and we are actively seeking information in relation to additional individuals who are believed to be involved in this incident.

UPDATE 2

Through the investigation, Detectives have identified at least one person believed to be responsible for the fatal fire that claimed the lives of three community members.

Around 2:30 p.m. on April 20, 2021, Officers arrested and charged a 25 year old Liam Stinson with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;

  • Party to the Offence of First Degree Murder x3 
  • Party to the Offense of Attempt Murder 
  • Conspiracy to Commit Murder
  • Party to the Offense of Arson - Disregard for Human Life

He was held in Police custody overnight and attended Bail Court today, April 21, 2021 to answer to the charges. He has since been remanded into custody and will appear in Video Remand on April 22, 2021.

The 37 year old man who was able to escape the fire is in stable condition as he continues to recover from the incident.

This is an ongoing investigation and we are actively seeking information in relation to additional individuals who are believed to be involved in this incident.

UPDATE 1

On April 16, 2021, the 33 year old woman who had sustained critical injuries during the fire was pronounced deceased at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto after being airlifted there on April 11, 2021 due to the severity of her injuries.

Her name will not be released out of respect for her family’s wishes. Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends and all those impacted by this tragic event.

A post mortem will be conducted through Coroner’s Office today, April 19, 2021 in order to assist in determining the cause of death.

Detectives from our Criminal Investigation Division continue to work in collaboration with the Coroner’s Office and the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office in relation to this incident. The investigation is ongoing.

ORIGINAL

Shortly after 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 11, 2021, we received a call from City of Greater Fire Services as Firefighters were on scene of a structural fire at a residential building on Bruce Avenue in Greater Sudbury.

Through the investigation, it has been determined that there were four individuals inside of the unit where the fire originated. One of the individuals, a 37 year old man was able to escape by jumping from a second story window. Unfortunately a 26 year old woman was pronounced deceased on scene and a 50 year old man was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The fourth individual, a 33 year old woman sustained critical injuries. Both the 37 year old man and the 33 year old woman were transported to hospital by City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services where they remain in critical condition.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of those impacted by this tragic event. The names of the individuals will not be released out of respect for their families’ wishes and we ask that you respect their privacy during this very difficult and emotional time.

None of the other residents in the building at the time of the fire sustained any injuries, however a number of residents were displaced due to the fire. The Red Cross is assisting those residents with accommodations until they are able to return home.

Detectives from our Criminal Investigation Division are working in collaboration with the Coroner’s Office and the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office in relation to this incident. The investigation is ongoing.
