Around 6:15 a.m. this morning, Thursday, March 26, 2020, Greater Sudbury Fire Services were called to a fire at a residential building on Whittaker Street in Greater Sudbury. Fire Services was able to quickly extinguish the fire that was contained to one unit in the building. There were no injuries, however the residents of the building had to be temporarily evacuated and have since been able to return to their homes.

Upon extinguishing the fire, Fire Services deemed the fire to be suspicious and contact the Ontario Fire Marshall’s (O.F.M.) Office, as well as, the Greater Sudbury Police Service.

Patrol Officers arrived on scene shortly after 7:10 a.m. and began an investigation in collaboration with the O.F.M. Through its investigation the O.F.M. determined the incident to be Arson.

While on scene, Officers were provided information that a woman was seen fleeing on foot just after the fire had started.

A short time later Patrol Officers arrested a 35 year old woman from Greater Sudbury and charged her with Arson Endangering Life.

The woman remains in Police custody and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Her name cannot be released as the information has not yet been sworn to through the Court process.
