Festive R.I.D.E. Results and #AnywhereAnytimeRIDE Campaign

We have recently seen an increase in impaired driving incidents. From November 27th to December 31st, 2020, a total of 58 drivers in Greater Sudbury were charged with Impaired Driving! These drivers were impaired by alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both and we are extremely disappointed by these statistics.

 

During that time period, 13 of those 58 Impaired Drivers were caught thanks to 12 Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) spot checks conducted by our Traffic Management...

UPDATE 2 - Woman Arrested for Second Degree Murder - Homicide of 75 year old Man

Through the investigation, Detectives from our Criminal Investigation Division identified the person believed to be responsible for the murder of 75 year old Robert Keskinen.

Just before 2:15 p.m. on January 7, 2021, Detectives from our Major Crimes Section with the assistance of members of our Integrated Crime Team located the woman on Kathleen Street. The woman was taken into custody without incident.

Greater Sudbury Man Charged with Multiple Counts of Fraud in Relation to Landscaping Services

On December 15, 2020, Officers arrested and charged 37 year old Christopher Goodman for Fraud Under $5,000 x6 in relation to multiple incidents that occurred over the Summer in Greater Sudbury.

Between May and September, the man accepted deposits from various community members for landscaping services on behalf of a local company. Early Morning Fire on Laforest Street Being Investigated as Arson

Around 1:00 a.m. this morning, Thursday, January 7, 2021, we received a call from City of Greater Sudbury Fire Services regarding what was determined to be a Suspicious Fire.

Fire Services responded to a residential building on Laforest Street after tenants reported smelling smoke. Firefighters arrived on scene and could see smoke coming from one of the units. They entered the unit and extinguished the fire.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021, Members of our Intimate Partner Violence Unit located and arrested the 31 year old man on the outstanding Arrest Warrant on Elgin Street.

He was held in Police custody overnight and attended Weekend and Statutory Holiday (W.A.S.H.) Court on Saturday, January 9, 2021 to answer to the charges. He has since been remanded into custody by the presiding Justice of the Peace.
