Early Morning Fire on Laforest Street Being Investigated as Arson

Around 1:00 a.m. this morning, Thursday, January 7, 2021, we received a call from City of Greater Sudbury Fire Services regarding what was determined to be a Suspicious Fire.

Fire Services responded to a residential building on Laforest Street after tenants reported smelling smoke. Firefighters arrived on scene and could see smoke coming from one of the units. They entered the unit and extinguished the fire.

All of the tenants were safely evacuated from the building and no one was injured, however...

UPDATE

Shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021, Members of our Intimate Partner Violence Unit located and arrested the 31 year old man on the outstanding Arrest Warrant on Elgin Street.

He was held in Police custody overnight and attended Weekend and Statutory Holiday (W.A.S.H.) Court on Saturday, January 9, 2021 to answer to the charges. He has since been remanded into custody by the presiding Justice of the Peace.

Several Charges Laid on New Year’s Eve, including Assault Peace Officer and Operation While Impaired

On New Year’s Eve, our Traffic Management Unit checked 371 vehicles in Greater Sudbury to ensure sober driving. In total, 12 Approved Screening Device tests and 11 Mandatory Alcohol Screening tests were administered; four Impaired drivers were charged; 18 Highway Traffic Act violations and five other Criminal Code charges were laid.

At 2:19 p.m. on December 26, 2020, officers responded to a report of a deceased 75 year old man found inside of a residence on Kathleen Street in Greater Sudbury. Man Responsible for Two Robberies Arrested and Charged

Around 3:20 p.m. on December 23, 2020, Officers located and arrested the man believed to be responsible for two recent Robberies.
