Man Arrested and Replica Firearm Seized After Incident on Old City Hall Lane

At 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, we received a call regarding a man waving around what was believed to be a handgun on Old City Hall Lane off of Durham Street downtown.

Patrol Officers quickly arrived on scene and located a man matching the description walking down the laneway. Officers also located the weapon on the ground where they originally saw the man.

The man was placed under arrest and searched. Officers located a loaded BB gun magazine on him, as well as, a large can of bear spray....

**UPDATE 2**

Today, August 18th, 2020, the 42-year old man has been arrested for the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:

  • Assault
  • Party to the Offence – Assault
  • Counselling – Assault

In addition, our criminal investigation has determined that the man was in possession of a tire iron during the time of the incident. As a result, the accused has also been arrested for the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:

  • Weapons Dangerous

Two ICE Investigations Lead to the Arrest of a 31 year old Man

In late 2019, the Greater Sudbury Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit received two separate investigations from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Each investigation found that a person in Greater Sudbury was distributing child abuse material online. Our ICE Unit continued each investigation by executing several court orders in an effort to identify the offender.

Man Responsible for Shed Fire at Restaurant on Regent Street Charged with Arson

We received a call around 9:15 p.m. on August 10, 2020 from Fire Services after Firefighters responded to a structure fire on the property of a restaurant on Regent Street. Firefighters extinguished the shed fire and determined it to be suspicious.

Officers arrived on scene and initiated an investigation into the incident.

60 year old Man Arrested After Suspicious Package Found in Mailbox at CRA

At 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2020, we received a call from an employee at the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) on Notre Dame Avenue regarding what was believed to be a suspicious package found in a mailbox inside the building.
