Requirements

  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
  • Physically and mentally able to perform the duties of a Police Officer- must be able to pass the Greater Sudbury Police Service Fitness Test, as well as a medical and psychological assessment
  • Valid driver's license with full driving privileges
  • Current Certificate in CPR (Level "C") and First Aid
  • Currently in good standing with respective Police Service
  • Completion of the Basic Constable Training Program or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to meet Essential Competencies and knowledge through previous Policing Experience
  • Bilingualism considered an asset

Military Police Experienced Officer Candidates:

  • Military Police Experience Officer Candidates may qualify for the Ontario Police College's (OPC) equivalency process. Candidate must also complete the equivalency exam process.
  • Candidates must have successfully completed a probationary period as set out in Section 44 (1) of the Police Services Act (PSA)

Selection Process

The selection process includes application submission, screening, assessments, interviews, and mandatory psychological, fitness, and background checks. Successful candidates receive a conditional offer and complete the GSPS Experienced Officer Training Program.
Stage One
 Submit a complete application package, including:
  • Experienced Constable Application
  • Resume
  • Cover letter
Stage Two 
  • Applicant screening
  • Military Police candidates will be assessed for eligibility to obtain equivalency
 Stage Three
Selected candidates may be asked to complete:
  • Local Focus Interview (written)
  • Experienced Officer Written Assessment
  • Pre‑Background Questionnaire
 Stage Four
  • Successful candidates invited for a Competency Interview
 Stage Five
 Stage Six
  •  Greater Sudbury Police Service Experienced Officer Training Program
