
Following feedback from an internal Diversity Census, the Greater Sudbury Police Service created a Spiritual Team to support members and participate in community events. This volunteer, multi‑faith team is made up of religious, pastoral, and spiritual leaders who offer guidance and care to GSPS members and their families.
How the Spiritual Team Supports Members
The Spiritual Team may:
- Provide spiritual care and emotional support
- Support members’ families during difficult times
- Deliver inspirational messages to the Service
- Assist with critical‑incident stress debriefings
- Offer invocations at Service functions
- Organize and lead morale‑building events for members and their families
- Provide counselling during times of stress, crisis, or family difficulty
- Accompany officers to assist with death notifications when requested
- Visit sick or injured members at home or in hospital
- Participate in ceremonial events and offer gratitude at special occasions
- Act as a liaison with local ministerial associations and advise on moral, spiritual, or religious matters
- Perform weddings, baptisms, funerals, and other significant ceremonies
- Participate in ride‑alongs to better understand member and community needs
