Greater Sudbury Police Arrest Two Individuals in Connection with Grandparent Scam

The Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) has arrested two individuals in connection to a grandparent scam, following two separate incidents reported on August 19th, 2025.

At approximately 5:10 p.m. on August 19th, 2025, GSPS received a report from a community member who had been contacted by an individual claiming to be her grandson. Officers investigating shooting on Spruce Street

Just after 1:00 p.m. on August 18, 2025, the Greater Sudbury Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a home invasion at a residence on Spruce Street. Information provided was that an individual had been shot and required immediate medical assistance.

Upon arrival, Patrol Officers located a 58-year-old male who had sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The individual was transported to hospital and remains in critical condition.

BEAR Unit seizes over $200,000 in stolen property during search warrant in Wahnapitae

On August 9, 2025, detectives from our Break Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit concluded an investigation into an individual who was believed to be involved in at least five significant property-related crimes between 2015 and 2025.

Officers investigating two stabbings in downtown core – One person in custody

UPDATE 2

Around 9:40 p.m. on August 14, 2025, officers located and arrested a 16-year-old, youth on Louis Street in relation to the two stabbings that occurred on August 11, 2025.

He has been charged with Attempt Murder x2, Disguise with Intent x2 and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose x2. He was transported to police headquarters and held in custody overnight to attend bail court today, August 15, 2025. His name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
