3rd Annual Mooz Akinonmaaget Maa Aki Concluding Feast

Yesterday we held the concluding ceremony and feast for our 3rd annual Mooz Akinonmaaget Maa Aki – Moose Who Teaches Land Survival. This mentorship program is in partnership with Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services, Nogdawindamin Family & Community Services, Niijaansinaanik Child and Family Services, Children's Aid Society of Sudbury and Manitoulin, Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service, Shkagamik-Kwe Health Centre and the Ontario Natural Resources and Forestry.

The third suspect involved in this incident has been identified as 20-year old Brandon Leclair-Davey of Greater Sudbury and is believed to be actively evading Police. He has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada: 

  • Robbery with Violence
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order

Fatal collision MR80 at Dugas Street

Just after 3:00 a.m. this morning, September 29, 2023, officers were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on Municipal Road 80 (MR80) at Dugas Street in Hanmer.

Police, City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services and City of Greater Sudbury Fire Services attended the scene and located the driver who was unresponsive. First responders began life-saving measures and Paramedics transported the driver to the hospital.

2023 Truth and Reconciliation Relay Closing Ceremony

Today, during National Truth and Reconciliation Week, we held the closing ceremony of the 2023 Truth and Reconciliation Relay.

In 2022, Constables Anik Dennie and Katrina Pitawanakwat proposed an internal initiative to educate GSPS members on Truth and Reconciliation and the history of Residential Schools in Canada. From this, the inaugural GSPS Truth and Reconciliation Relay occurred where over 100 GSPS members participated and logged close to 12,000 kms.
