2024 Community and Police Awards Gala

During Police Week, the Greater Sudbury Police Service hosted its annual Community and Police Awards Gala at the Caruso Club.

The Community and Police Awards Gala provides us with the opportunity to honour police service members, community organizations and community members who have demonstrated commitment and leadership and/or assisted in the enhancement of community safety and wellbeing within the past year.

UPDATE 2 - Skeletal remains identified as Carey Cadeau

UPDATE 2

The skeletal remains located in the wooded area West of Marion Street in Chelmsford have been identified as Missing Person, Carey Cadeau. Carey was identified through dental records.

Carey was last seen on November 12, 2013. Carey was 41 years old when he went missing.

Detectives have concluded the investigation into Carey’s death. The circumstances of his death are not suspicious and there was no foul play.

Police investigating threat at Ecole Notre-Dame

Around 2:30 p.m. on May 8, 2024, officers were dispatched to École Notre-Dame in Hanmer in relation to a threats complaint.

A student located a handwritten message on a piece of paper warning of a threat to individuals at the school. The message did not detail the type of threat. The piece of paper was found in a bathroom in the school. The student brought the piece of paper to staff who contacted police.

Officers are actively investigating the matter to determine the credibility of the threat....

BEAR Unit seizes over $25,500 in illicit drugs after driver tries to flee scene of collision

On May 3, 2024, members of the Break, Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit observed a motor vehicle with unauthorized license plates being driven on MR35 in Chelmsford. Detectives from the BEAR Unit requested the assistance of Patrol Operations to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. Upon seeing the marked police cruiser, the driver began driving at a high rate of speed Elm Street. On Friday, May 3, 2024, the Ontario Women in Law Enforcement (OWLE) hosted its annual Awards Gala in Brampton honouring female police service members from across the province in Major Award Categories and through Length of Service Awards. 

A number of GSPS members received Length of Service Awards for having served 25- and 30-years in the policing profession.
